Dana White answers why Conor McGregor hasn't fought

Former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor last fought in July 2021 losing to Dustin Poirier in a trilogy bout at UFC 264.  McGregor broke his leg in the defeat.  

The Irishman coach The Ultimate Fighter 31, last summer opposite lightweight contender Michael Chandler.  McGregor is expected to return and fight both men.  

Why hasn’t McGregor yet fought?  UFC CEO Dana White answered that question during the UFC 298 Post-Fight Press Conference.  

“The first issue was that he fractured his shinbone.  He was still recovering.  It was one of the main reasons… The other problem is he’s f**king rich,” White said.  

White went on to say, “Conor McGregor does not need money.”  White continued, “Conor McGregor is a very wealthy man.”  Conor is a great guy and we will be happy to have him.  We will be happy when Conor comes to fight, but the money factor complicates things.  

“He has just finished filming a movie.”  He has press duties for the movie, and other obligations.  He wants to fight in this year’s Olympics, but we will see.”

White replied, “I’m not sure.” When asked whether it was possible for McGregor to never fight in the UFC ever again, White said, “I’m not sure.”

McGregor will turn 36 in July.  Three years ago, “Notorious”, a.k.a. McGregor, stepped on the scene in July.
