Daniel Cormier doesn't want to see Sean O'Malley vs. Ilia Topuria


Bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley puts his title on the line for the first time against Marlon “Chito” Vera in the UFC 299 main event on March 9.  If O’Malley wins, and he predicts that he will, he wants to face featherweight titleholder Ilia Topuria at the Sphere on Mexican Independence Day.  

Both men are now champions and have competitors in their respective divisions.  Former two-division champion Daniel Cormier doesn’t want to see them fight, or at least not yet.  

“I’ll tell you exactly what I don’t want to watch.  I don’t like to see Topuria fight Sean O’Malley.  I don’t need to see those guys fight just yet because neither of them have defended their championship,” Cormier said on his YouTube channel.  

Cormier added, “I’m not sure that we should allow these guys to receive a belt without leaving the division.”  “That’s exactly what happened to Islam [Makhachev] The following are some examples of how to get started: [Alexander] The division was not cleared by Islam.  He has two title defences, both against Volk.  He weighs 45 pounds.  He’s never defended a belt against a lighter.  Volk had cleared out the division with that fight.
