Demetrious Johnson calls CM Punk’s massive UFC paydays ‘a big spit in the face of all the champions’


CM Punk’s UFC run was memorable for all the wrong reasons.

The Punk (Phil Brooks), a.k.a. the real Phil Brooks, tried to emulate Brock Lesnar in 2016, by transitioning from sports entertainment into mixed martial arts. Unfortunately, he was unable to duplicate the success of Brock Lesnar, the former UFC heavyweight champ, as he was absolutely manhandled in his Octagon début at UFC 203 by Mickey Gall.

Punk came back two years after the first time to face Mike Jackson and lose unanimously. The result, however, was changed to a “no-contest” when Jackson tested positive for cannabis.

CM Punk’s two lackluster appearances were compensated handsomely, despite his failure to ignite the Octagon the way he usually does in the ring. Punk’s disclosed payout for each fight was a cool $500,000, though a report from Bloody Elbow (before being sold and stripped down to a shell of what it once was) revealed that the ‘Second City Saint’ actually banked more than a million dollars per appearance.
