Dustin Poirier vows to knock out Islam Makhachev in grudge fight at UFC 302: ‘The ref is gonna be pulling me off of him’

Former interim lightweight champion, Dustin Poirier has reacted to a prediction of an “easy” fight from Islam Makhachev ahead of their UFC 302 title clash – claiming he will force the referee to pull him from an unconscious Makhachev next month in New Jersey.

Poirier will headline UFC 302 in Newark next weekend. The former interim lightweight champion is hoping to capture the undisputed title of lightweight for the third attempt, after unsuccessful attempts against both exchampions Charles Oliveira & Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Makhachev has not been seen since UFC 294 in October. In that fight, he won his lightweight title by a high kick KO victory in the first round over Alexander Volkanovski.

Makhachev, who will face Poirier in his last lightweight fight before a possible run for the welterweight title next month, has promised to finish Lafayette’s native Lafayette with relative ease in UFC 302, likely by a rear-naked-choke victory.
