Holly Holm: 'Ronda Rousey wasn't better than me'

Former women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey opened up about her UFC 193 knockout loss to Holly Holm in an interview with Valeria Lipovetsky.  Rousey attributed the loss to a concussion as well as a difficult diet and mouth guard.

“My mouthguard wasn’t good.” Rousey explained that, “I literally came into the fight concussed after all these concussions already from slipping down some steps,” she said.  “Then I lost a lot of weight, which meant that my brain had less fluid to protect it.

Holm responded to Rousey’s remarks on Wednesday at the UFC 300 Media Day.    

“I am saying this with respect.  To have an upset as big as that one, you need a champion who is dominant.  “I couldn’t have had such an upset without her being dominant,” said Holm.  

“I am the better fighter,” I said.  Holm added, “I was a better fighter that evening.”  Every fighter, especially if they’ve been fighting for a long time, has had at least one concussion.  If you look back at my boxing matches and the things I have done, I’ve had concussions.  I’ll never use that as an explanation for any loss.  It’s not fair…
