Former undisputed middleweight championship challenger, Paulo Costa has claimed a “deal is done” for him to fight former titleholder, Robert Whittaker in a return to the Octagon for both of them at UFC 299 in March of next year.
Costa, currently ranked number six in the middleweight division, has not fought since August last year when he faced former undisputed champion Luke Rockhold in Salt Lake City. He defeated the Santa Cruz veteran in a tight, unanimous decision victory to end his two-fight losing streak.
Whittaker is currently on the sidelines after a stunning second-round TKO loss in July to Dricus duPlessis during International Fight Week.
Whittaker confirmed that he would be appearing at the Miami event in Florida in an Instagram post, and appeared to openly challenge Costa for a UFC 299 clash in March, after the UFC 284 clash in Australia was cancelled.
