PFL vs. Bellator was scheduled to take place on Saturday, in Riyadh. The league is finally ready to show off the depth of their roster after its acquisition of Bellator MMA, a rival, late last year.
The league’s intention to run the two promotions separately meant that the format of head-to-head was mainly about bragging right. For the main event heavyweights Ryan Bader & Renan Ferreira there was more at stake. As of Thursday, PFL officials had revealed that the winner of Bader vs. Ferreira would be the next man to face Francis Ngannou in MMA, after “The Predator” competes against Anthony Joshua in a high-profile boxing match next month.
While the champ versus champ format was the selling point of Saturday’s PFL vs. Bellator card, in reality the format had taken some hits early on, with only two true champ vs. champ fights remaining. Bader and Ferreira were not the only two fights remaining. Impa Kazanganay was also fighting Johnny Eblen. The 205lb PFL Champion Impa had moved back to middleweight in order to face Eblen.
