UFC 296 Edwards vs. Covington was the final UFC event and PPV of 2023.
Colby Covington, the controversial Colby Covington, did his best to sell the fight between Leon Edwards and the welterweight champion. That included a reference to the British star’s murdered father, with Covington suggesting he’d see him in hell when he dragged Leon there. Classy.
Covington is not everyone’s cup of tea. Leon Edwards is not one of them. Brandon Royval may be a nice, good-natured guy who is also an explosive flyweight. As he demonstrated in his most recent fight, Royval can finish both on the ground and on his feet. But in Alexandre Pantoja – who earlier this season won the gold medal from Brandon Moreno – Royval was challenged to win and beat a competitor who had already beaten him.
