Magomed Akalaev’s performance at UFC Fight Night 234 has made the fight for the light-heavyweight title much more intriguing.
Ankalaev (19-1-1 MMA and 10-1-1 UFC), had disappointing results in his two previous cage walks, but found relief against Johnny Walker in their second encounter. The Russian made a bold statement when he knocked out Walker (21-8 MMA and 7-5 UFC), in the second round of the UFC Apex main event in Las Vegas, at 2:42 in Round 2.
Walker wasted little time unleashing flashy, unorthodox techniques; a spinning back kick, soon followed by a question mark kick, and then a hook kick was offered. Ankalaev, as usual, remained calm and waited to use his offensive.
Ankalaev was given a hard warning after a kick that went wrong caused the fight to stop, and brought back memories of UFC 294’s no-contest. Walker showed off his capoeira before the horn.
