Nassourdine Imavov won his first UFC main-event victory on Saturday, putting in a dominant performance with some drama during and after the fight.
Imavov (13-4 MMA and 5-2 UFC), defeated Roman Dolidze (6-3 UFC, 12-3 MMA) in five rounds by a majority decision (49 44, 47 47, 48 46). The UFC Fight Night 235 Middleweight Main Event was held at UFC Apex Las Vegas.
Dolidze fought off an attack in the late rounds of Round 1. Imavov knocked him down, pounded, grabbed his back and continued to ground-and-pound. Dolidze seemed a bit confused at the end of the round as he made an awkward U-turn to return to his corner.
Both the second and third rounds were full of clinching, with each fighter controlling his position at different times. Both men appeared tired when they separated by one minute during Round 3.
Imavov’s right hand proved to be money, with two big ones landing on Dolidze’s dome during Round 3. Dolidze grabbed Imavov’s hand and slowed down the pace for a moment, but Imavov delivered another big right after separation.
