On June 4, Ciryl Gane is carrying the Olympic torch.

The former UFC heavyweight world champ will carry the torch to his hometown, La Roche-sur-Yon, seven weeks before the Games officially begin in Paris on July 26.

“Proud to carry the flame,” Gane wrote in a translated post on Instagram. “Hoping to one day see MMA in an Olympic event.”

More than 10,000 athletes will converge on ‘The City of Light’ this summer vying for one of the most coveted prizes in all of competitive sports — an Olympic medal.

Opening ceremony on Seine River will begin on Friday, July 31st. Boats representing each delegation will travel from east to western, and will wind their way into the center of Paris.

The Olympic Games will also host over 40,000 volunteers, and 20,000 journalists accredited. The 35 venues will host 329 events, which will generate 350,000 broadcast hours. The festivities will be broadcast live from Paris to millions of viewers, and billions more from their home or mobile device around the globe.
