Robelis Despaigne won a bronze medal at the Olympics and delivered an impressive performance on his Octagon debut. In just 18 seconds, he dominated heavyweight Josh Parisian.
After making a name for himself on the regional scene with four straight first-round finishes, ‘The Big Boy’ continued the trend in his promotional debut at UFC 299 on Saturday night. Despaigne launched a powerful head kick in the opening seconds that knocked his opponent off of his feet. Despaigne, scrambling to his feet, met the Parisian approaching him with a booming left hand that sent him crashing down.
Parisian then ate another two right hands on canvas before the referee stepped in to stop the bout.
Official Result: Robelis Despaigne def. Josh Parisian is KO’d (strikes), at 0:18 in the first round.
The UFC records this as the second-fastest heavyweight knockout ever. Despaigne has now achieved a perfect 5-0 record in his mixed-martial arts career. It took him only 37 seconds to knock out his four previous opponents.
